The Hongkong and Shanghai banking Corporation (HSBC) Ltd in Bangladesh is undertaking a number of initiatives to celebrate 400 years of Dhaka as a capital city this year.
HSBC has commissioned a map which will showcase places of historical importance in Dhaka's history. The map will also have brief introductions on these places as well as locations of HSBC within the city.
Speaking about the launching of the map, HSBC Bangladesh Chief Executive Officer, Mr Steve Banner said that this map would highlight the great architectural achievements that were part of Dhaka's long history as a capital and hoped that people would cherish this as a keepsake for future generations.
The map is currently available at select stores including Etcetera, Words & Pages and will be available at other venues very soon.
HSBC believes in giving something back to the community in which it operates and we have been proud to offer our support a variety of good causes including underprivileged children's education, helping the needy and disabled, helping preserve the environment/disaster relief and promoting Bengali culture for more than 10 years. In keeping with this philosophy, we will be donating all funds raised through the sale of the map to local charities.
In addition, HSBC is sponsoring a drama on 400 years of Dhaka which will be shown at the national theatre in Segun Bagicha from 17th July. The show will be open to the public from 20th July with the entire proceeds from that show going to charity.
HSBC has also sponsored the works of 3 of the country's renowned photographers, Babu Ahmed, Munem Wasif and Taimur. Their pictures capturing the essence of old Dhaka will be showcased at Drik Gallery from 13th July.
