HSBC Bangladesh has observed the World Environment Day by undertaking a number of activities. Held on 5th June each year, World Environment Day (WED) is an environmental awareness raising day sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme. To mark the day, HSBC Bangladesh carried out a large scale tree plantation (more than 1000 trees) program at the Osmani Udayan, which is one of the largest parks in Dhaka City. Through this tree plantation program, HSBC aims to increase its green footprint in the city it operates in.
On June 1, 2008, HSBC also launched a month long "GO GREEN" campaign. As a part of the campaign, customers availing CNG Conversion Loan in the month of June 2008 will get special discount on interest rates. All the Branches and Customer Service Centers (CSC) have also been branded with green theme while the customer facing staff in CSC's and Branches dressed in green T-shirt to raise awareness on World Environment Day.
It is also worth mentioning that a staff from HSBC Bangladesh has participated in this year's HSBC climate program in Malaysia. The HSBC Group is carrying out this 5-year USD100 million HSBC Climate program partnering with four world-class environmental organisations.
