Services for non-resident Bangladeshis

Foreign currency current account

  • A choice of currencies - US Dollar, Pound Sterling and Euro
  • An ATM card for US Dollar, Pound Sterling and Euro accounts that gives you access to your funds in local currency of the respective country from around the world through 800,000 ATMs, 24 hours a day
  • The balance of the account is freely remittable, i.e. you may transfer funds overseas subject to foreign exchange regulation of the recipient country
  • Cheque book facility

 

Foreign currency time deposit account (NFCD)

  • Interest bearing time deposit account
  • A choice of currencies - US Dollar, Pound Sterling and Euro
  • Competitive interest rates
  • A choice of tenures of one, three, six and twelve months with auto renewal facility
  • Interest is tax free within Bangladesh
  • Both interest and principal are fully repairable, i.e. you may transfer any outstanding fund of your account to your country of residence/overseas subject to foreign exchange regulation of the recipient country

 

Non-resident taka account

  • Local currency account
  • Can be opened as either a local currency interest bearing savings or non-interest bearing current account
  • Not freely remittable
  • Cheque book facility

 

Local Currency Time Deposit Account

  • Interest bearing time deposit A/C
  • Competitive Interest Rate
  • A choice of tenure of one, three, six and twelve months with auto renewal facility

Other facilities offered to non-resident Bangladeshis

Personal secured credit

  • A taka overdraft credit facility secured by either foreign/local currency time deposits or WEDBs or USDBs
  • Limit of up to 80% of the value of foreign currency time deposit or USDBs and 90% of the value of WEDBs or taka time deposit
  • Interest is charged on the daily overdrawn balance and payable on a quarterly basis

 

Personal secured loan

  • A fixed loan secured either by foreign/local currency time deposit or WEDBs* or USDBs*
  • Limit of up to 80% of the value of foreign currency time deposit or USDBs and 95% of the value of WEDBs or taka time deposit
  • Loan repayments can be made upto a maximum period of five years in the form of Equal Monthly Instalments (EMI)

*NRBs can invest in Wage-Earner Development Bond (WEDB) or US Dollar Bond (USDB) issued by Bangladesh Bank through HSBC.

Services for resident Bangladeshis

Resident foreign currency deposit account (RFCD)

  • Accounts opened with funds brought in from abroad as per the Bangladesh Bank's guidelines on foreign exchange transactions
  • Should be opened within one-month of return from overseas
  • Can be opened as a current or time deposit account
  • Interest bearing time deposit account with maturities of one, three, six or twelve months with auto-renewal facility
  • Both interest and principal are fully repatriable, i.e. you may transfer any outstanding fund of your account overseas subject to foreign exchange regulation of the recipient country but no inward remittance is allowed into this type of account
  • Personal secured credit - an overdraft facility of up to 80% of the value of the foreign currency time deposit
  • Personal secured loan - a loan facility of upto 80% of the value of the foreign currency time deposit
